Classroom Workshops

WAVE brings environmental education directly into schools, especially those without the resources to support conservation-focused learning. Our programs introduce students to critical topics like marine science, sustainability, and wildlife conservation, ensuring that every child, regardless of their school’s budget, has access to hands-on environmental education. With generous donations, we can continue offering these programs at no cost to schools in need. As funding grows, we will expand our impact by launching our animal programs, allowing us to bring live animals into classrooms and giving students an up-close learning experience with wildlife - all completely free.

Available Marine Workshops

  • This engaging and imaginative curriculum is designed for elementary and middle school students to explore the fascinating adaptations of marine creatures by drawing fun and educational parallels to Marvel superheroes. Through interactive lessons, students learn how unique traits like bioluminescence, electric shocks, and camouflage help ocean animals survive in their environments. The program encourages creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration as students match marine species to superheroes, analyze similarities and differences, and present their findings to the class. With optional art, writing, and research activities, the lesson promotes curiosity about marine life, science, and environmental awareness while sparking enthusiasm through pop culture connections.

  • This 60-minute lesson introduces elementary and middle school students to predator-prey relationships and the structure of food webs and chains within marine ecosystems. Through interactive games, visual aids, and group activities, students learn to define predators and prey, identify key adaptations, and understand how energy flows through different trophic levels. The lesson emphasizes ecological balance, biodiversity, and the impact of environmental issues such as climate change and overfishing. By building food webs, analyzing real-life marine examples, and engaging in reflective discussion, students gain a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of ocean life and the importance of conservation.

  • This one-hour high school program offers an engaging exploration of coral reefs, emphasizing their biology, ecological roles, biodiversity, and the urgent need for conservation. Students examine coral artifacts, watch captivating reef videos, and discuss coral adaptations, such as symbiosis with zooxanthellae. The lesson also covers major threats like climate change and pollution and highlights real-world conservation strategies. A creative art activity allows students to design their own coral reef scenes while incorporating preservation ideas. The program wraps up with student reflections and a call to action, inspiring learners to consider their role in protecting these vital marine ecosystems.

  • In this one-hour lesson, students will embark on an engaging journey through the fascinating world of ocean chemistry. Students will learn how color in the ocean delves into mesmerizing hues based on several factors, as well as how water quality affects every aspect of the ocean and the animals that inhabit it. Through this course, students will watch videos and participate in experiments to help engage them in thoughtful discussion and understanding about ocean chemistry. The interconnectedness of ocean chemistry, color, and water quality is emphasized, reinforcing the holistic understanding gained. To inspire continued engagement, students are assigned a follow-up activity to create a poster on the nitrogen cycle and present it in class.

  • Dive into the fascinating world of microscopic marine life with our high school curriculum, designed to illuminate the vital roles these tiny organisms play in our oceans. Students will explore the diverse array of microorganisms, from phytoplankton to zooplankton, and understand their importance in maintaining marine ecosystems. Through hands-on activities, such as examining prepared slides of actual specimens under microscopes, students will gain a deeper appreciation for these invisible heroes. This curriculum not only fosters a love for marine science but also emphasizes the importance of conservation efforts to protect these crucial components of our planet's health.

  • This immersive lesson takes students on an exciting journey into the deep sea, exploring its mysterious environment, extreme conditions, and the incredible adaptations of the creatures that live there. Through engaging videos, discussions, and visuals, students learn about bioluminescence, pressure resistance, and other survival traits unique to the deep ocean. They also discover the advanced technologies—like ROVs and submersibles—that make deep-sea exploration possible. A hands-on group activity allows students to map out deep-sea animals and features, followed by a class reflection on the significance of ocean exploration. The lesson wraps up with a creative follow-up assignment, encouraging students to dive deeper into deep-sea organisms or technologies through a narrated film or research poster.

  • This interactive lesson introduces students to the diverse branches of marine science, including oceanography, biology, ecology, geology, chemistry, and policy. Through engaging activities like word games and a collaborative presentation, students learn the significance of each field and how they contribute to our understanding of the ocean and environmental health. The program also includes a discussion on educational and career pathways in marine science, supported by a video from real scientists. Students wrap up by researching a branch of their choice and creating informative posters that showcase its importance, key discoveries, and personal interest in the field.

Our workshops are designed to connect students with the ecosystems they impact, even those they may never see firsthand. We believe environmental education should transcend geographic boundaries, helping young minds understand their role in protecting our planet’s diverse habitats. While our current programming emphasizes marine and aquatic systems, we are actively expanding our curriculum to include a wide range of ecosystems and environmental topics.

Every workshop is crafted with flexibility in mind, and we are proud to collaborate directly with educators and schools to develop sessions that meet their specific goals, standards, and classroom needs.

If you're interested in booking a workshop, we encourage you to contact us, pricing is always discussed on a case-by-case basis. Because we believe education should be accessible to all, we do not list flat fees. Instead, we work with each school or organization to create a price that fits their budget.

Please note that workshop costs may vary depending on supplies, materials, and travel distance. All proceeds go directly back into our mission, supporting conservation, advocacy, and youth education through The WAVE Coalition.
